Mascot Sports Set to Make History with the Sold-Out Bay Bridge Half Marathon on Cinco de Mayo in Oakland

Mascot Sports, a leader in one-of-a-kind endurance sports experience is set to make history this Sunday, May 5 with the inaugural Bay Bridge Half Marathon, the first event of its kind to cross the new Bay Bridge. The Bay Bridge Half, winner of the 2019 Run Happy Pitch Fest Presented by Brooks at the Running USA Industry Conference in Puerto Rico, will lead the way as a cupless event and provide runners with reusable SpeedCups designed by Oakland’s HydraPak.  The event will also replace bib-affixing safety pins with snap and lock reusable fasteners by the East Bay’s BibBoards.

The sold-out event limited to only 1500 runners will give athletes a highly-premium, locally curated experience with partners including Oaklandish, Old Kan Beer, the Oakland Athletics, and top local chefs, as well as Mascot partners Brooks and Nuun. The Bay Bridge Half will also provide runners with unprecedented perks including a 7 ft running shoe piñata to celebrate Cinco de Mayo.

The event will start and end at West Oakland’s Old Kan, one of Oakland’s most creative brewers where runners will be treated to “Liquid Medal,” a custom beer specially created for Bay Bridge Half participants.

“Old Kan and Mascot both share the same love for Oakland and everything it represents,” said Old Kan Co-Founder and Michelin Star Chef, James Syhabout. “Starting and ending an event like this here on 3rd and Linden is unique and very special. It’s about building community and showcasing an overlooked part of our town we’re super proud of.”

Adding to the innovative nature of the event, more than 50 percent of the 13.1-mile route will keep runners above the San Francisco Bay.

“We at Mascot are just as excited as our sold-out field of participants for this inaugural event, the first race of its kind to traverse the Bay Bridge,” said Mascot Sports VP of Events, Tim Cole.  From making it zero-waste via reusable SpeedCups and BibBoards in lieu of safety pins to all the perks provided by Brooks and Nuun this will be a tremendous experience from start to finish line.”
